Spotlight Series: Judy Dewinter on “Cancer, Charity, and Community”
Judy Dewinter, is an activist, ambassador, chair of the Royal Free Charity’s board of trustees and president of Myeloma UK.
Judy’s first experience with the Royal Free Hospital was in 2003 when she was treated for the blood cancer, myeloma. The diagnosis changed her life and her priorities. After leaving her job in the City to begin treatment, she became a governor, and then the lead governor, of the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. Alongside this, she joined the board of Myeloma UK and became chair, overseeing the charity’s tireless work for patients. One example of the impact of this work was the Office of National Statistics’ published data that showed that myeloma patients had the greatest increase in survival compared to any other cancer. Judy is also a patient representative on various boards and advisory groups, and is passionate about transforming outcomes for patients.
