Evening Concert: “The Cellist & The Pianist”, A recital with Willard Carter and Tähe-Lee Liiv
Back by popular demand, we are excited to announce our upcoming musical recital on June 10th featuring the rising-star cellist, Willard Carter, and award-winning pianist, Tähe-Lee Liiv. About Willard Carter
Willard started cello lessons at the age of 4 with Elizabeth Anderson. He joined Wells Cathedral School as a chorister at the age of 8 and moved to the Purcell School to study cello with Alexander Boyarsky in 2013. In 2016, Willard joined the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music for additional study of chamber music. In 2018 Willard started learning with Ivan Monighetti at the Escuela de Musica Reina Sofia in Madrid and in 2023, Willard starts learning in The Barenboim-Said Academy in Berlin with Frans Helmerson.
In July 2023, Willard performed his first solo recital in the Gstaad Menuhin Festival. Recently, Willard has performed recitals in the Radio Classique Festival in St Malo, where he has been invited back for the 2023 festival, in the Gstaad New Year Festival.
Willard has played recitals all over the world. In England, he has performed in The Wigmore Hall, The Charterhouse, The Goldsmiths Hall, Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. He has been selected as a Rising Star for Classic FM. He has also played recitals in New York, in Berlin and in Paris.
Willard has been mentored by extraordinary musicians, in particular Vasily Petrenko as well as Jaap Van Zweden, Ben Palmer and Guy Johnson. Willard has been given the loan of a fine instrument by Vincenzo Postiglione, 1893 by a private sponsor.
About Tähe-Lee Liiv
Tähe-Lee Liiv is regarded as one of Estonia’s brightest rising stars in piano. She has performed in solo recitals, chamber music concerts, and as soloist with orchestras, in Europe and America – including Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Italy, Germany, Israel, and the U.S.
Tähe-Lee has won many national and international piano competitions, including I Prize in the International Piano Competition “Emilia ed Elsa Gubitosi” in Capri, Italy (2023); the Estonian National Television’s live-broadcast talent show “Klassikatähed” (2020); Ninth Competition of Estonian Pianists (I Prize and two Special Prizes, Tallinn, 2019); International Gershwin Music Competition (II Prize, New York, 2019); Concerto Competition ‘Theodor Leschetizky’ for Gifted Young Pianists (I Prize, New York, 2019); Festival ‘Venice Music Masters’ (Guido Alberto Fano Prize, Italy, 2019), International Piano Competition in San Dona di Piave (I Prize; Italy, 2018); “First Mart Saar Competition for Estonian Pianists 2018” (I Prize and Special Prize, Estonia, 2018).
