Riedel, the 300 year-old family owned company known for the creation and development of varietal-specific stemware, were the first glass manufacturer to recognise that the taste of a beverage is affected by the shape of the vessel from which it is consumed.

Its pioneering of revolutionary designs that complement wines, spirits and beers began in 1958, and Riedel is now the brand of choice for wine connoisseurs, hospitality professionals and consumers worldwide.

Take your tastebuds on a journey of discovery as Martin Turner, Riedel’s UK Ambassador, guides you through a unique comparative wine glass experience.  Perceptions are altered, senses astounded as you experience the effect that each of the different glass shapes has on both your nose and your palate!

Martin will be joined by wine expert and buyer, Alistair Viner.

We will start the evening with The Trouble with Dreams 2020, the highest-rated English Sparkling Wine based on average critics’ scores. The 2009 in magnum (now sold out) won Best in Show at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2025, putting it among the world’s top 50 wines.  Acclaimed winemaker, Dermot Sugrue, may be remembered by Circle Square members, from our wonderful wine tasting a couple of years ago.  From humble beginnings, Dermot has risen to become one of the leading winemakers in the UK, gaining well-deserved recognition for his talent and dedication.

We look forward to tasting the 2020, a fruit-forward and generous expression of The Trouble with Dreams, as well as several other wines in our comparative wine glass experience.

Ticket Price

Price per ticket: £40 per head for members and £50 per head for non-members.  Each attendee will receive a complimentary set of three Riedel red wine glasses to take home.

Martin Turner

Now in his 30th year with the Riedel family, Martin is the dynastic company’s second longest serving employee.  Starting under the tutelage of Georg (10th generation), he moved through logistics and accounts and then, once he had completed his WSET training, into sales.  In 2004, he was made an honorary member of the Order of European Wine Knights, and in 201,5 the incumbent CEO, Maximilian (11th Generation), appointed him one of the world’s first Riedel Tasting Ambassadors.
