Tour of the Cairo Genizah Collection
The Cairo Genizah is a collection of almost half a million pages of manuscripts that accumulated in the storeroom of the Ben Ezra Synagogue in Cairo from the 11th century onwards. The texts are in various languages, mostly Hebrew, Arabic, and Aramaic, and document almost 1000 years of social and economic life of the Mediterranean region. They include both religious and secular writings, the latter includes shopping lists, marriage contracts, school exercise books and items written by Maimonides.
Join us for an exclusive viewing of this collection and a presentation by expert curators, hosted by Circle Square member and historian, Eleanor Levy. After the tour, you’re welcome to stay and enjoy the wonderful sights of Cambridge, at your leisure.
There is no charge for members but we request a £15 fee for non-members.
Places are limited so early booking is recommended. We look forward to welcoming you.
