Private Viewing of the Woolf Jade Collection
Jade was regarded as the most precious stone in ancient China, and it symbolised purity, moral integrity, prosperity, success, and good luck. It is also a symbol of renewal, longevity, and even immortality. Prized for its durability and magical qualities, the stone was laboriously carved and polished into all manner of objects from jewellery to desk ornaments.
This exclusive event offers Circle Square members a unique opportunity to view a private collection of stunning and precious objects, curated in the Woolf Collection and hosted by Carol Michaelson, an expert in Chinese history and art.
About Carol Michaelson
Since 1991, Carol was a curator in the Department of Asia at the British Museum where she was responsible for looking after all early material, including Jade and snuff bottles. Now semi-retired, Carol continues to work part-time at the Museum and for one of its patrons. In this private viewing, Carol will share her story of how she became involved and interested in Chinese Jade, with a detailed look at several pieces.
